What I am thankful for at 45 - Dayo Olomu
I turned 45 years old last week. On my birthday my family and I spent the whole day at Brighton beachfront. Later in the evening we went for dinner. Before I retire to bed I spent sometime reflecting on the journey so far.
During my reflection time the thought that came to my mind was the telephone call I received a day before my birthday as I was leaving Tate Britain where I had gone to enjoy contemporary British Art from 1500 to present day. A lovely lady called me to wish me a happy birthday and asked me what I am thankful for am at 45. My response was that I am thankful to God for the gift of life, good health and a wonderful family. These three things are the core of what I am thankful for. I am thankful that I am surrounded by people that care, love and support me; that I am enjoying the products of my dreams and vision; that I am living a live of purpose and passion; that I have not only motivate and inspired people, I have also shared practical, applicable, actionable tactics and strategies for acting on their inspiration and motivation. “That was quite interesting” she replied.
What makes me most fulfilled at 45 is seeing the results in clients and people that I’ve worked with transform right in front of my very eyes as their new choices and new strategies help them live a more fulfilled and empowered life.
I am happy that I have been able to restore belief to many people who have lost it, vision to those who can no longer see and cure many people who suffer from possibilities blindness. I am delighted to be a noble warrior who is winning in different aspects of my life. Winning as described by Israel’s ‘Winning Guru Yehuda Shinar in his book “Think Like a Winner” is someone’s ability to maximise his or her potentials even when under pressure and in competitive situation – while demonstrating constant improvement”. The truth is that I have ‘worked harder on myself than my job.” I got this advised from Jim Rohn.
Discovering, mentoring, coaching and training seven speakers who featured at ‘Invent Your World & Make in Happen’ in April 2010 also gladdens my heart. Mentoring and coaching up and coming speakers is like gaining immortality. If I teach them and they teach others, then what I know lives forever.
To me, being successful is not only achieving my goals, but also helping others to win as well, which I have been doing for the past few years for people and organisations. I believe that it is important to have long and sustainable success.
Since June 2005 when I turned 40 I have lived my life in the full glory of who I am and as a result I am more confident, happier and fulfilled than I have ever been. And because of this change, I am achieving more in a faster time-scale as I am operating from my strength and full potential.
What I enjoyed most about my work, career and business is: 1) making a difference; 2) inspiring and empowering people and organisations and 3) having fun while making a difference & inspiring and empowering people and organisations. Isn’t that GREAT? When work is a pleasure, life is a joy. I believe in what I do – I am paid to make a difference in people’s life – what a great job. I go to work everyday with passion.
My focus now is making a difference and aligning myself with the people and organisations that enable me to make a difference in the world especially in Africa and United Kingdom .
Finally I would be spending more time performing the roles I cherish most in life that of a husband and father.

Dayo Olomu's successful blast at Ardyss Body Magic Lagos Show
Dayo Olomu, one of the world-renowned motivational speakers and personal development expert was in Lagos yesterday to do what he knows best-coaching people to succeed in life. He was the guest speaker at Ardyss Body Magic product Show held at the new Protea Hotel, Ikoyi, Lagos.
Olomu’s keynote address, which lasted for about forty minutes, left the audience asking for more. He spoke on key elements of success in the 21st century and how anybody who desired success can achieve it.
He noted that to succeed, first step is to believe in oneself and moved further to take action towards achieving the desired success. He explained further that people we relate or hang out with on a daily bases are also determinant of our level of success. The way such people talk; what they wear; their taste and lifestyle become ours sooner if we remained close to them. Everybody was able to know that action is the constant separator of achievers and failed persons.
The truth is many of the audience must have listened to success talks at one time or the other but the style, the punch, the eloquence, the energy and unique verve in Dayo Olomu’s delivery was the difference. No doubt, he is a professional personal development expert.
At the end of the presentation many of the ladies at the Ardyss Body Magic Show were moved to taking action in buying the product, while others expressed interest in purchasing outside the venue.

Dayo Olomu’s 2009 Year in Review
My Dear Friends and Colleagues,
Each year at this time, I resolve that "Next year is going to be the best year of my life!" (Until the following year). You should do the same. Resolve today to make next year your best year, and then write down seven things that would happen to you if it genuinely was your best year. I learnt this from one of my teachers; Brian Tracy a few years ago.
My spiritual life and personal relationship with my God and my fellow human being is growing stronger and stronger. I achieved one of my spiritual goals which was to complete the Holy Bible. It took me 3 years to complete this goal and now that I have completed it, feels like such a great achievement for me.
The home front is great. I am blessed with a happy and healthy family. My stylish and gorgeous wife, goddess bagged a BA Hons in Business & Management while our first daughter, got admitted to the University of Kent, Canterbury in September. The other children are also doing very well in school, whilst I kept myself fit and healthy and was able to complete this year’s Fleet Half Marathon with a smile on my face.
In terms of my work 2009 remains my best year ever. My speaking schedule was jam-packed. I could barely see straight, let alone handle the demand of 60+ engagements in UK, West Africa and United Arab Emirates. It was a dream and a nightmare at the same time. Next year, I shall be scaling down my speaking schedule so I can spend quality time with my family. I have decided that it is time to stop “pounding the pavement” of the speaking circuit as I have been doing this for the past 13 years. It’s time for a new direction.
I’m now beginning my transition into my new found love—coaching and developing speakers who are eager to create or expand their own speaking business. I hope to launch a new generation of public speakers in the first quarter of next year.
On Monday 31 August, I received the news of the passing of my wonderful mum, Mother Celestial Florence Olomu. It was one of the most challenging moments of my life. I reached an emotional low, the depth of which I didn't think existed but I took solace in the fact that she has gone home to meet the Lord. She was eventually laid to rest on 25 September 2009.
When I look back now to that moment in my life I am really thank God for making it possible for me to give her a befitting burial. If she had died in 1996 when I just relocated to UK and was jobless and penniless, discovering that someone had stolen my identity and used it to open a bank account, collect credit cards and even used it to marry, it could have been disastrous for me. I would not have been able to afford to go to Nigeria to talk, let alone give her a befitting burial.
Towards the end of the year I was appointed as a Leading Faculty trainer with ‘Most kept secret in the world of Personal Development Education in UK, New Generation Academy’. I accepted the offer because I shared one of their aims “To create a unique platform or an avenue where people around the World and Africa in particular will be able to positively and confidently unlock and unleash their inner potentials.” This is in line with one of my plans for Africa which is “to help increase the level of human capital in the continent, increase the number of business leaders & entrepreneurs; develop effective communicators & public speakers; help people to conquer fear, to stop procrastination, to believe in themselves, and to take action so that they can become the person they are destined to be.” New generation Academy will also serve as a catalyst to achieve my long term goal “to impact 1 billion people's lives in a positive way by 2020”
Last year my audio programme, “You Got The Power” was sent to more than 180 countries in September 2008. I was the first speaker and author of African origin in Europe to achieve this feat. I am thankful for this achievement. Due to popular demand, the audio programme will be turned into a book and will be out on or before 25 June 2010.
It was a year of awards. In 2009 I was honoured with five awards - the highest number of awards in my professional life. It started in Lagos in April when I was honoured with the Nigeria’s Ambassador of Hope in the Diaspora; In August I was voted as MC of the Year in UK and in September I was voted UK’s Motivational Speaker of the Year. I also bagged “Merit award for my contributions to the development of music and movie” and another “Merit Award of Excellence for Outstanding Contribution to the development of Arts and Humanity”. I would like to use this medium once more to thank those who voted for me and the organisers of the awards.
I am thankful to God for making it possible for me to be living my dream and passion. This year has been a remarkable year for me and I hope it has also been for you. Congratulations to You for all that you have accomplished in 2009, and may 2010 be the best year of your life.
With best wishes,
Dayo Olomu
PS: It promises to be one of the biggest personal development events in 2010 as DOCCI present 7 incredible speakers in 1 Day. The event will be hosted by award winning motivational speaker Dayo Olomu and is being supported by New Generation Academy. Watch out for details

Achieving Powerful Goals & Getting Out Of The Rut Of Perfectionist Procrastinator with Dayo Olomu by Tunde Adeleye
Very few motivational speakers possess the uncanny knack to exude a personality that transcends the depth of their subject matter, let alone have the natural ability to sway an audience – the latter, a herculean task that typifies the public speaking profession.
Speaking at a seminar last weekend hosted by the Redeemed church branch in Seven Sisters, London tagged “Achieving Powerful Goals & Getting ...Out Of The Rut Of Perfectionist Procrastinator" and organised by Richard Solutions (a corporation focused on training and development), Dayo delivered one of his powerful speeches that sought to inspire people to stop living a mediocre life. Here was a man who, two days previous to this speaking engagement had shared the stage with renowned international motivational speaker - Les Brown, in Westminster London.
After speaking so passionately about how he overcame adversity and poverty growing up in Nigeria, his speech although short but straight from the heart, received a standing ovation from the audience including Les Brown himself. Little wonder that he recently won the award of Best Motivational Speaker of the Year in UK at the M&M Awards.
Dayo’s speech delved into the subject matter of setting clear goals and achieving them. According to him “The reason why most people face the future with apprehension instead of anticipation is because they have no goal”. This simple task has accounted for many people who do not know what they want out of live. But in order to ascertain what you do want out of live, you need to make clear written goals. The goals also need to be visualised. In order words, one needs to have a clear mental picture that the goals will be the ones that will give birth to your dreams. You may even go one step further and visualise already attaining them.
Dayo explained it this way. “Not only should you get a clearer picture of where you want to go. You must be passionate about your desired goal because passion is the energy that drives your goal. What often stops us from reaching our full potential are our limiting beliefs, and the biggest one is fear. One thing you must never allow fear to do is to stop you from achieving your goal”.
In the field of personal development, imparting knowledge and motivating people who want to improve their lives may seem an effortless task. But fundamentally, the arduous task is in getting people to set goals for themselves about what they want to do. By all means everyone should have a dream, but a dream is futile if there are no set goals to bring the dream to fruition. Dayo gave it a different definition. “A dream is a goal with a deadline”. Many of the successful people who have set goals in various areas of their lives, set goals. Therefore, the end result is a progressive realisation of their dreams.
In setting goals, Dayo broke this down into 5 W’s and H’s.
WHAT – do you want in life?
WHEN – do you want it?
WHY – do you want it?
WHO – will help you achieve your goal?
WHERE – are you at the moment?
HOW – am I going to achieve my goals?
The best possible start you could make in setting goals is to write it down and make it plain. Desist from committing your goals to memory, as the brain is not for storing information but to be used for creativity. “You can never hit your target unless you think on paper” Dayo enthused. “A goal that is not in writing is not a goal at all. It is merely a wish and it has no energy behind it".
Secondly, break your goals down. For instance, your desired goal may be to lose weight within a specific time frame. In this instance, if it is a one year goal, it should be broken down into months; a one month goal broken down into weeks, etc.
Thirdly, plan and manage your time effectively. Time management is life management. “If you cannot properly manage your time, there is no way you can effectively manage your life or your goal. Our situations and needs influence our time orientation, but our time orientation (and needs) can be changed, leading to success in life” Dayo continued.
Having decided on what you want to do, and set goals to accomplish them using effective time management, you then need to take action. Action is what separates the go-getters from the mere dreamers. It separates the winners from the quitters. Life is about results - for it is only when you do something unique and worthy of emulation that you will be celebrated. Millions of cases of celebrated people abound in the Guinness Book of Records.
According to Dhammapada “Just as a flower, which seems beautiful has colour but no perfume, so are the fruitless words of a man who speaks them but does them not”. Having a positive mental attitude and dogged determination through daily powerful affirmations is what will propel you to taking action. “Commitment leads to action and action brings your goals closer to you. Daily goals are reached by doing things that may be uncomfortable at first but which eventually becomes habits. Habits are powerful; they turn actions into attitudes, and attitudes into lifestyles”, Dayo remarked.
Perhaps one of the key barriers that has impeded many people in the pursuit of their dreams is that despite starting well, they end up finishing poorly when they meet an obstacle. “Your persistence is the direct measure of how much you believe in yourself and in your ability to succeed. Persistence blended with experimentation does guarantee success”, Dayo reasoned. Henry Ford was right when he observed that "Obstacles are those frightful things you see when you take your eyes off your goal"
“I am a believer in the philosophy of the mountain climber which says, “I will climb the mountain. They have told me it’s too high, it’s too far, it’s to steep, it’s too rocky, and it’s too difficult. But it’s my mountain. I will climb it. You will soon see me waving from the top or you’ll never see me, because unless I reach the peak, I’m not coming back", Dayo continued.
