Do you know you can be whatever you want to be, be whoever you want to be and go wherever you want to go? Yes you can! Though many people don’t believe this, but I dare say to you ‘anything is possible; it’s all about taking life head on’.
Maxwell Maltz once said, ‘To attain real satisfaction and happiness in life, there must be obstacles to conquer and goals to achieve because man is built to conquer his environment, to solve problems and achieve goals.’
Except you’re not on a success journey, only then should you expect a smooth path. The obstacles on your path to success are milestones that make your journey meaningful, shape you and help you achieve your goals. As an individual, the best thing that happened to me was growing up on the other side of the track without the privilege of wealthy parents. Everything I wanted then, I’d to hustle and scrape for.
I got an early jolt in life; I was barely eight years old when my father suddenly passed on. I was raised by my mother - a woman with neither education nor financial capability except for her big heart. Mother’s goals were simple, “Dayo, make something of yourself,” she always advise. She instilled in me
sound morals and spiritual values, as well as the virtue of hard work. She made me believed hard work and faith in God is the key to success.
Propelled by her determination, I vowed to succeed in life and that vow has been my driving force. Now I’ve mastered the rope, my early struggles have been confined to history. I’ve learnt to walk my rough paths to my advantage.
Though it’s been tough, yet I took life head-on with determination, dedication and doggedness. Today, the boy who once hawked on the streets of Lagos and gate-crashed into the launching of Tera Kota’s first album in Nigeria –
‘Lamentation For Sodom’ in 1982, is now a man, with feet firmly on the way tohis dream.
